The Chesterfield Police Department, as well as other police agencies in Cheshire County are currently seeing a rise in Burglaries (i.e. breaking into a home and stealing property), as well as thefts from unlocked cars which are parked in driveways.

Due to the recent increase in these types of crimes, the Chesterfield Police is recommending that you lock your home when you leave for the day and lock your cars when they are parked in your driveways.  Most of the burglaries are happening during the day when no one is home and the thefts from cars are happening during various hours in the evening.

If you see ANY suspicious activity in your neighborhood, PLEASE call 911 or Cheshire County Dispatch at 603-355-2000.

Some of the questions that the Dispatchers will ask are:

  • What is your name and address?
  • What is the suspicious activity?
  • What does the person look like?
  • What is the person wearing?
  • Where is that person now?
  • Is there a car involved?
  • What does the car look like?
  • What color is the car?
  • Is there any distinguishing marks on the car, such as is there a head light or taillight out, is it missing a hubcap, are there dents on the car, is there a roof rack or ski rack on the top of a car. If it is a truck is there a cap over the bed of the truck.
  • Has the vehicle left and if so, what direction did they go?

Please do not hesitate to call the police.  This is what we are here for.  In many instances, our cases are solved because citizens get involved in their community and call us when they see suspicious activity.

I want to reassure you that all of the officers in the Chesterfield Police Department are working diligently in trying to solve the recent increase in crimes in our community.  If you have any questions regarding this letter, or have questions about personal safety, please feel free to give me a call at (603) 363-4233. If I am not in the office and you feel that your question needs to be answered quickly, any officer will be more than happy to assist you.
