Library Summer Reading Program News-

The Library will be celebrating a Universe of Stories as our summer reading program theme this year. Perfectly timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Lunar Landing and the renewed interest in space travel and the cosmos, we have many new books to enjoy and learn from, and lots of fun activities planned.

Kids who sign up for the summer reading program will receive their reading log (beginning June 25) so they can track their summer reading. Twinkle Town offers free ice cream for every 10 books read. The Library will award prizes for the most books read on August 5.  Kids who read over the summer return to school better prepared and ready to succeed.

To provide extra support for emerging and struggling readers we will be hosting PAWS for summer reading on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30 beginning June 26 through August. This program pairs certified therapy dogs that provide an encouraging, nonjudgmental audience for children as they gain confidence and improve their reading skills in a relaxed environment. Children will be encouraged to read for 10 to 15 minute intervals or as long as no one is waiting for a turn. Registration is not required

The summer reading program is not just books. Ask at the Library about our spacecraft contest. Below is a list of the weekly programs planned. No registration is required for these free activities. Activities will take place at the Chesterfield Library unless otherwise specified.
